The word "recloser" itself appeared relatively recently. In the zero years, many power engineers were unfamiliar with this concept. Previously, the device was called a sectioning unit, which was used to divide overhead lines into sections. This division allowed and still allows to temporarily take emergency sections out of service to repair damage without disconnecting power supply to the entire facility.

However, the recloser still has some differences. The main element of the device is a vacuum circuit breaker, which allows automatically disconnecting and reconnecting AC circuits according to a predetermined algorithm. It protects power lines from overloads and short circuits. The device also allows for monitoring, recording the characteristics, parameters of power grids.

Why do you need a recloser?

The fixture not only protects power grids from overloads, but also has a kind of mind. Depending on the settings of relay or microprocessor protection, the automatic sectionalizer makes several attempts to restore power supply in case of failure and sends a message to the operator.

The "intelligent capabilities" of the device allow you to reduce the number of trips of operative teams, thereby reducing the cost of power grid maintenance. Recloser refers to the class of unattended installations, autonomously operating without human presence for many years. Therefore, it is installed in facilities located in remote and inaccessible areas.

Let us summarize the intermediate results. The device is used to:

increase the reliability of the network;

reduce maintenance costs;

minimize losses from possible power shortage to consumers;

accounting of the electrical energy.

Technical characteristics

Main structural elements of the device are:

Vacuum circuit breaker, actuating in tenths of a second;

Current and voltage transducers detecting line parameters (transformers);

Relay or microprocessor protection devices, which control the operation of circuit breakers;

mounting frames;

connecting cable.

In most cases, all recloser systems are powered by auxiliary transformers, which reduce the HVDC voltage to 220 V. Devices can be of two types: with one-way or two-way power supply. This parameter depends on the scheme of power supply organization: ring, trunk (simple or double), radial.The products allow to automatize 6-10, 35 kV networks. These products can be used at ambient temperature ranges from -40°C to +60⁰C.

Mounting and installation

Automatic section control unit is designed to protect and regulate overhead power lines. It is installed on poles, so it has small size and relatively low weight.

When choosing a place for installation, the configuration of the power grid and the frequency of accidents at a particular site are taken into account. Devices are mostly mounted on routes that have branches. Why is it necessary to divide the overhead line into sections, redundancy and transition of power from one source to another. Devices are placed on the transmission line at distances of 8-10 km. Such spacing increases the reliability of power supply to consumers in separate sections.

Installation work is performed by qualified personnel using a lifting mechanism and/or "claws". The metal box is fixed to the poles with frames, which the manufacturers complete the products. Typically, manufacturers produce mounting posts for a specific type of support. To do this, the buyer needs to specify the appropriate information when placing the order.Robert Carneshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07884978693256854640noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20581125.post-45805955517476303702021-08-24T04:35:00.004-07:002021-08-24T04:35:34.738-07:00Different Types of Pallet Racking for ExpansionYour business is growing and you either need to expand your current warehouse or build a new warehouse to support your growth. At least, until you have to decide what type of pallet racking system you need to install. In its simplest form, a pallet racking system is a material storage system.

Pallet racking helps you stay organized within your warehouse and better manage you inventory. Choosing pallet racking, however, is not as simple as selecting a pallet rack brand and installing it. There several racking types that help you meet your needs.

The type of racking you choose depends on a few criteria:

How tall the racking needs to be

What the floor plan will be

What goods will be stored

What types of forklifts you currently use or forklifts you intend to switch to

What type of inventory management system makes sense for your product & operation

Types of Pallet Racking: Selective Racking

Selective racking systems are some of the most common and widely used racking systems, mainly because they are less expensive and easier to install than other, more specialized racking systems. Selective racking is great for warehouses that store a large amount of stock keeping units (SKUs).

Selective pallet racking is usually a single-deep pallet rack. This type of racking makes any given pallet in the rack system accessible without having to move another pallet.

Types of Pallet Racking: Cantilever Racking

Cantilever Racking systems are used to store items that cannot be easily stored on pallets. Warehouses that use cantilever rack, usually store longer and heavier items to be stored horizontally across multiple arms (like lumber or steel pipes).

Pallet racks, on the other hand, have vertical uprights that limit the length of stored items. This is the primary difference between cantilever racking and pallet racking.

Types of Pallet Racking: Pallet Flow Racking

Pallet flow racking systems are also referred to as “gravity flow” racking systems. Pallet flow racking systems are best suited for the first-in, first-out (FIFO) inventory management methodology. When you load a pallet from the loading aisle and onto the lane rollers, gravity allows the pallet to roll to the front of the system.

When the pallet is removed from the front of the racking system, the pallets behind roll to the front of the lane. Pallet flow racking allows for high-density storage while maintaining FIFO. Some pallet flow racking systems may hold up to 20 pallets deep in one lane, minimizing the number of aisles needed to store items while maintaining efficient inventory turnover.

Types of Pallet Racking: Push Back Racking

Push back racking systems is another high density storage option, with the ability to store up to six pallets deep on either side of an aisle. There are usually three carts stacked on top of each other. The first pallet is loaded from the front in a push back racking system and sits on the top cart.

When the second pallet is loaded, it pushes the top cart with the first pallet back. Push back racking gives you higher density storage than selective racking systems, while allowing you more selectivity with storing items than other types of racking, meaning you can store more SKUs.

Types of Pallet Racking: Drive-In Racking

Drive-In racking systems are great for storing large volumes of just a few SKUs and can also be configured to manage inventory with FIFO or last-in, first-out (LIFO). With drive-in racking, the forklift literally drives into the racking system to move a pallet. This type of pallet racking system is cost effective by maximizing the amount of storage space in your warehouse.

Choosing between these types of racking systems will depend on the various goals of your operation and the relevant inventory data like volume and throughput. No matter your decision, always be sure that this racking is installed safely and effectively to increase productivity.

Both equipment were handling hazardous material. Thus the environment around the major equipment was determined and found to be Class 1 Div 2.

The electrical system was designed accordingly as per codes for classified hazardous area. Due to large motor load of the Reactor Motor and poor power factor. Soft Starter was added to inhibit the starting inrush current and capacitor were added to mitigate the power factor.

In addition to the two major equipment there were number of other pumps that required Variable Frequency Drives to regulate the speed. The client purchased the electrical equipment from Germany marketplace. That presented some challenges in understanding the drawing prepared in German standard.The other challenge was to interface the German standard connections to the equipment in conformance with Canadian Standards and as per Canadian Codes.

The electrical distribution system was existing. The power from existing switchboard in the vicinity was available. However, the load calculations were required to establish the spare capacity, based on the availability we could either use all the additional power needed from this switchboard or look for other sources of power. The load calculation determined that the switchboard with the given demand and diversity factor can handle the addition of new Reactor system load. However, this will push the capacity of the switchboard to its maximum capacity, leaving no room for any other future load. The client was informed of the limitation and they were in agreement with our recommendations.

Two branch breakers 1000A and 600A suitable for the existing switchboard were needed to tap power. The 600A breaker was to feed the single load of the New Reactor 300 HP motor. New 1000A Motor Control Center was installed to feed the 10 feeds that were needed for Salt Water Heater elements and to feed other miscellaneous loads. Four (4) of the ten Heating elements required variable control of heat for which Thyristors were installed.

Most of the power was distributed by using Armored Teck Cables in cable trays. Voltage drop Calculations were made both for power and Instrumentation cables due to long runs. Harmonics distort the input voltage on power lines, which affects the electrical system in various ways. Harmonics can overheat power wires and transformers or cause erratic operation of other electrical loads. When these situations occur, it opens the door for downtime and expensive repairs.

Traditional VFD technology can create Harmonics, and today many modern electronics like LEDs, Switch mode power supplies, and more also attribute to Harmonics making electric power quality more important now than ever.
